National Child Labour Project (NCLP)

Suman Kumari Ray, daughter of Devendra Ray, a Diary farmer of Taltola village in Chandrapur Block, Kamrup district, has never been to school. She was engaged as a labourer in the diary farm to clean the cow shed and collecting fodder and fire wood from the forest. Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD) set up the special school named Gyan Setu Kendra No-35 at Taltola village in November, 2008 under National Child Labour Project Kamrup (Metro). The teaching staff of Gyan Setu Kendra visited every household of the village and requested the parents to send their children working as a labour to Gyan Setu Kendra. Suman Kumari was enrolled in Gyan Setu Kendra and she pursued studies there for next three years.

After completion of three years Suman Kumari was enrolled in Bonda M.E School in class VI. Suman is in class X at present and she will appear in H.S.L.Cexamination in 2016. Suman’s parents have decided to use the stipend which was deposited in her name as stipend under NCLP for her higher studies.
